Senior Fitness Training in Tampa

Personal training for adults over 60 in the Tampa Bay Area, built around strength, balance, and staying independent. In person or online, with a clinical eye on every session.

Most of the people I train are over 60, and most of them came to me for the same reason: something in daily life started getting harder. The stairs. The groceries. Getting up off the floor. Senior fitness, done properly, is training that gives those things back.

What senior fitness training actually is

It is strength training, balance work, and mobility, scaled to your body and progressed carefully. Not a gentle chair class with no challenge, and not a bootcamp. The middle ground, where you work hard enough to change and safely enough to keep coming back.

In practice, my sessions with older clients revolve around a handful of patterns that decide independence: standing up and sitting down with control, stepping up and down, carrying weight in your hands, getting down to the floor and back up, and holding your balance when something unexpected happens. We measure them on day one and we track them.

Who this is for

  • Adults in their 60s, 70s, and 80s who want to stay in their own home, on their own terms
  • People who have never lifted a weight and are nervous about starting
  • Active seniors who play golf, tennis, or pickleball and want to keep the schedule going
  • Anyone who has had a fall, or a near miss, and wants to get ahead of the next one
  • Adult children arranging training for a parent

I have clients who have trained with me for more than a decade, some now in their late 70s, who are in the best shape of their adult lives. That is not a slogan. It is what consistent, appropriate training does.

How I keep it safe

I have a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science and more than 22 years of coaching, much of it with older adults and clients whose health needs real attention. I check blood pressure when it is warranted. I watch for warning signs. I ask about your medications and your history before we lift anything. If a doctor is managing a condition, I train alongside their plan, not around it.

For balance work, I am standing right next to you. The whole point is to push you to the edge of your stability so your body adapts, and that edge is exactly where a fall can happen, so I keep my hands ready.

In person or online

In-person sessions run one-on-one or in small groups across the Tampa Bay Area. Online sessions run live by video, which suits clients who are steady on their feet, travel part of the year, or have moved away and want to keep training with me. The intro call is where we figure out which fits, and some clients use both.

What the first session looks like

We talk first. Goals, history, what hurts, what worries you. Then a short movement screen: sit-to-stand, a single-leg stand, a floor get-up if it is safe, an overhead reach. Nothing on day one is a test you can fail. It just tells me where to start.

Sessions run about an hour. How often we meet depends on your goals and your week, and we set that on the intro call. Strength comes back faster than most people expect, and the first wins show up in ordinary moments: the groceries in one trip, the stairs without a pause.

"I have been training with Dario for nearly ten years, in both his senior fitness classes and weekly 1:1 sessions. His understanding and knowledge of age-appropriate training is unparalleled. Thanks to his guidance, I am in the best physical shape of my life. If you are looking for a trainer who truly understands how to help you thrive at any age, Dario is the gold standard."

Common Questions

Am I too old to start strength training?

No. I have started clients in their 70s and 80s who got stronger month over month. We begin where you are, often with a chair and body weight, and build from there.

Do you train seniors one-on-one or in groups?

Both. Most of my senior clients train one-on-one, and I also run small groups for people who like the company. We choose on the intro call.

Do you train seniors online?

Yes. Live sessions by video work well for clients who are steady on their feet and have a little floor space. For balance work with a real fall risk, I recommend in person so I can be right next to you.

What if I have a health condition?

Bring it to the intro call and I will build around it. I check blood pressure when it matters and work alongside what your doctor has cleared. If you are managing something like a heart condition, diabetes, or Parkinson's, my clinical exercise page goes deeper.

What should I wear or bring?

Real shoes with a closed heel, comfortable clothes, water, and a list of your medications for my notes. That is it.

Not sure which fits? Let's talk.

A relaxed 15-minute call to hear your goals and find the right format and schedule. No pressure, no obligation.
